Symptoms
Symptoms begin at mature leaves. Leaves are dark green and a bit smaller than normal. With ongoing phosphorus deficiency leaf blades show a purple tint. Tinting becomes brighter as leaves age and approach early senescence. Fruits and flowers tend to be smaller and fruits can develop albinism.

Reasons
Phosphorus deficiency. Petioles of phosphorus deficient leaves contain less then 700 ppm acetic acid soluble phosphate-phosphorus, dry basis.

Strawberries - Chlorosis

Symptoms
The first indications of a deficiency are a dull, deep green or bluish-purple discoloration of the plant and a reduction in leaf size. As the deficiency worsens the upper surface of the leaves develops a dark, metallic sheen while the underside becomes reddish-purple. Mature leaflets show marginal chlorosis with subsequent dark brown necrosis, starting from the leaf tips.

Reasons
Phosphorus deficiency. Symptoms are worse during cold and dry growing conditions and at high pH values, all of which render the P less available.

Acidic or very alkaline (calcareaus) soils
Low organic matter
Cold or wet conditions
Crops with a poorly developed root system
Soils with low P reserves
Soils with a high phosphate capacity
Iron rich soils

Stronger plants, healthier plants with more resistance to cold weather
Bigger bolder berries
Improves efficiency of fungicide sprays
Reduces incidence of botrytis
Firmer berries with better storage potential
Increases shelf life

Yara recommended fertilizers for Phosphorus

YaraMila® 15-15-15

Strawberry (field grown): Apply 400-1000 lbs YaraMila® 15-15-15/acre in split applications according to variety, yield potential, and soil test. Apply 50% prior to pegging, with the remainder side dressed. For perennial plantings, apply 20-30 lbs N/acre post harvest. Utilizing YaraMila® 15-15-15 provides a balanced nitrogen approach by supplying both nitrate and ammoniacal nitrogen along with fully available Phosphate, soluble Potassium and Sulfur in a homogenous prill. Consult with your agronomist for local recommendations.

YaraMila® 21-7-14

Strawberry (field grown): Apply 285-950 lbs YaraMila® 21-7-14/acre in split applications according to variety, yield potential, and soil test. Apply 50% prior to pegging, with the remainder side dressed. For perennial plantings, apply 100-150 lbs YaraMila® 21-7-14/acre post harvest. Utilizing YaraMila® 21-7-14 provides a balanced nitrogen approach by supplying both nitrate and ammoniacal nitrogen along with fully available Phosphate, soluble Potassium and Sulfur in a homogenous prill. YaraVita® MAGPHOS™

Strawberries (field grown): Non everbearing varieties: 3 applications of 1-2 quarts/acre from start of flowering. Repeat applications 7 to 10 day intervals. Everbearing varieties: 6 applications of 1-2 quarts/acre. Do not apply successive applications at intervals of less than 10 to 14 days. Water rate: 30 to 50 gallons/acre.

Strawberries (field grown): Apply 1- 4 quarts/acre from start of flowering. Repeat applications at 14 to 21 day intervals. Water rate: 20 to 50 gallons/acre.

NUTRA-PHOS CALZINC

Strawberry (field grown): 5 to 10 lb. per acre per application. Application after fruit starts to color may leave a visible residue. Apply aerial applications in at least 5 gallons/acre and ground applications in at least 10 gallons/acre; however, when total application gallonage is 25 gallons per acre or less, DO NOT mix more than 1 lb. of this product per gallon of water.
